The Rhino Dream.

“If your dreams don’t scare you, they are too small.”— Richard Branson

It is a sweltering hot afternoon as the sun beats down relentlessly upon the muddy arena. I stand by one end of the arena, my sole focus fixated on the beast that stands before me. Its body is caked with mud as is his face. The beast breathes air out of its nostrils as it looks at me with its beady black eyes. I am paralyzed with fear as I try to think of any possible way to escape the eminent attack from the beast.  I can feel my heart racing as I look at the rhinoceros standing directly in front of me.

Have you ever had a dream where you are so paralyzed with fear that you cannot move even if your life depended on it? Well, the above was a dream I seem to keep having over and over.

I remember waking up with a pounding heart every time I dreamt about the rhino. This got me curious. I decided to do some research about dream analysis and stumbled upon a podcast that asks us to become the actual object or subject in our dream. Still curious and with nothing to lose, I decided to give it a shot! Having done the dream analysis, below was the message I received from the rhino to me:

“I am here to protect you from getting too comfortable. I love and care for you and understand that you are scared to make a change in your life right now. However I'm here to let you know that it's okay to move out of this role and embrace the life that will allow you to grow and walk your true path.

 Just. Let. Go.”

I was completely gobsmacked!  You see, this was a time in my life where I was contemplating a shift out of my career into a new one. My inner self seem to know that I had grown and contributed all that I could in my current role and it was time for me to move on. However, my outer, I-give-a-shit-about-how-I-look-self was reluctant to make a shift as it meant that I was to give up my social, economic and professional standing and dive into what seemed then like the abyss of the unknown. Sound familiar?

This dream allowed me to realize that I was being guided by something greater than myself. It gave me the assurance I needed to give myself permission to step into the unknown.

Today, having moved out of the said career, I now work as a Life Coach. Ironically, dream analysis happens to be one of the things I am trained to do with my clients.  The depth of wisdom and guidance that my clients tap into never ceases to amaze me!

It all started with that one dream that got me curious.

Do you have a dream (waking or sleeping) that you wonder about?
